What is Personification?
Personification is one of
the figures of speech anyone will find interesting, especially as a writer.
It is a literary device that addresses ideas, objects, and inanimate things as
though they are human. In this case, it makes it possible for writers to give
objects and ideas human attributes.
Personification is very common in poetry, stories, and other forms of literary works. It is an interesting and common figure of speech because hardly will you see its absence in works of literature. However, it can be said that writers rely on it so much because of its uniqueness which is tied around "Giving life to a lifeless object." Another interesting thing about personification is its inner ability to differentiate the reader from the writer, and the literature students from non-literature students. In other words, when a writer uses personification, it gives the writer power over the reader because the reader is put in a working and thinking space. That is, he/she is put in a space to think critically to understand the theme of the work. Also, it is often easy for literature students to come in contact with personification, identify it and decipher it. This is because they are familiar with such manipulation and creativity in literature. As for non-literature students, they will begin to wonder how the word 'feeling' which everyone knows as inanimate embarks on beating humans. Interesting right!
To understand
personification at its peak, we provide several personification examples and include how personification looks in poetry, sentences, and literature
generally. Mind you, personification is used not only for poetry but for any
other piece that needs to encompass remarkable use of words. For instance, some
content writers and copywriters base their content on personification as a
formula to win the heart of their targeted audience.
